On a recent visit to Bay Saint Louis from her home in Henderson, Kentucky, Miss Hannah Beth May, Dr. Mahler's oldest granddaughter, was able to spend a morning helping at the clinic, and, in the process, getting a good feel for veterinary medicine.  Hannah enjoyed seeing and petting several animals, as well as learning how to assist with keeping animals calm.  She even got to experience aspects of cleaning in the clinic.  She is 8 years old, about the age her mother, Sarah Mahler May, began to be taken seriously as a bonafide employee of Bay Animal Clinic.

Pictured is one of our more energetic dogs, Ziggy, who lives up to the reputation of his Golden Retriever breed.  Ziggy loves life and all that surrounds him.  His faithful owners are Miran and Jordyn Kapidzic.  Miran, born in Bosnia and educated at USM, is now a project manager at Stennis Space Center.  Jordyn teaches at DeLisle Elementary School, and was named Teacher of the Year in 2013.  Married for 5 years, the Kapidzics have lived in Bay St. Louis for 3 years.  Miran, Jordyn, and Ziggy make a great addition to our clinic family!

Pictured is Cristina Sheppard with Lana, an 11 week-old brindle and white boxer.  Lana is a joy to handle and care for, as she is still in the exuberant, juvenile stage of her puppy development.  The boxer, an AKC non-sporting breed, is known for its genuine affection their owners, a trait which will help Lana grow into a great family pet.  Sometimes, however, boxers never seem to grow up, retaining the joy of life that some breeds shed at maturity.  Cristina, an intern employee with Innovative Turbines at the Slidell Airport, works primarily on aircraft inspection and maintenance.  Cristina is a native of Ecuador and has  been in the United States for 17 years.  Her husband, Dakota, is a Petty Officer, Second Class with the United States Coast Guard, and is stationed locally.  Lana is welcomed by her co-pet, Chalupa Batman, a 2 1/2 year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel which, incidentally, was the breed of choice for Ronald Reagan while he was in the White House.  I suspect that the little King Charles will train the larger boxer protege well!

Pictured here is Sherry Gros with her grandson, Cole.  Cole is holding his new kitten, Sugar.  As you can see, he will be taking good care of her!  Sherry and her husband, Cornell, previously long-time residents of Bay St. Louis, now live in Kiln.  They have a son and a daughter.  Cornell owns Cornell Electric, LLC where Cole's father, Michael, also works. Sherry is a nurse for Dr. Ted Willis.  Before her employment with Dr. Willis, Sherry worked at Bay Animal Clinic as a veterinary technician.  It was good to visit with Sherry again and hear the news about her growing family.

Meet Magan Bourn and her dog Buddy.  Buddy is a 4-year-old Yorkie who is very sedate for his breed, but can hold a grudge if he is not happy with our procedures.  Magan has been coming to the clinic since childhood, when she came with her mother, Kathy, and sister, Robin.  She certainly inherited her love for animals from her parents and grandmother, Mrs. Soffra.  Magan is a student, and is also employed at Lowes.

Meet Kristen Hornosky, her 7-year old daughter Summer, and Thib-A-Deaux, a canine of questionable heritage.  One thing stands out about Thib-A-Deaux, though, and that is his exuberant spirit and love of life, which he may have inherited from an apparent, partial beagle lineage.  Possible ancestors may also include German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, or other hound progenitors.  Thib-A-Deaux is an enjoyable patient to treat, even though remaining calm and controlled does not lie within his behavioral pattern – Blake and Denise certainly earn their pay during his visit!  Summer is a fourth generation client of Bay Animal Clinic, with mom Kristen, grandfather Jerry, and great-grandfather Gerald continuing to make visits to Dr. Mahler with their many pets a family tradition.

Pictured here is a classic 3-ear old yellow Labrador Retriever named Lil.  She is with her owner, Ann Arnold, of Waveland.  Ann and her husband, Tom, moved to the Coast from Arkansas six years ago.  Lil might remind some long-term clients of Bay Animal Clinic of our first clinic dog, Ben, who lived in the the facility for 13 years as a loyal and obedient pet when patients were present, and a dependable guard dog when the staff was gone.  Lil, now mature, has the fun and loyal temperament which characterizes the Labrador.

More Chihuahua lovers… Kayla Graves and her 6-week-old Chihuahua puppy, Lil' Man, came to Bay Animal Clinic with Kayla’s grandmother Linda Pagano and her Chihuahua, Toodle Dou.  Lil’ Man is in today for his initial check-up and shots.   He is already showing some spunk, but, at the same time, he does express the need to bond with his owner.  Seven-year-old Toodle Dou is here for a nail trim, and can be very protective of his owner.  Handle with care!   This grandmother/granddaughter team are relatively new clients to Bay Animal Clinic.  Mrs. Pagano is retired from the construction business.
